The School Council

Larne Grammar

Current Issues Being Discussed:

'How do we learn ?', homework survey, School Positive Behaviour Policy, locker room doors, facilities in locker rooms, Microsoft Office, iPads, gymnastics, solar panels, road survey….

What have we changed………

  • Pupils who are injured and are therefore unable to do PE/Games can now do homework or revision instead of copying notes (19/10/2012)
  • Senior Prefects will ‘police’ the queue’s in the canteen for the first fifteen minutes of lunch as this is when there are a lot of people bunking the queues.  The canteen staff manage to get about 400 meals served in twenty minutes so you could also go to thecanteen for a lunch at 1.25pm and get served immediately. (14/12/2012)
  • The school Bursar was invited to the meeting to discuss the facilities.  Facilities in the toilets and locker rooms will be fixed and then it is up to pupils to either report items that have run out or keep the repairs to a minimum and respect their own environment. (16/11/13)
  • An assembly informing pupils to take care of their own facilities was given, explaining the difficulties for the caretaking staff due to vandalism by pupils.
  • The ‘Extra Curricular Sub Group’ have been asking staff their opinion on school hoodies. They are sourcing pricing and designs for these. (16/11/13)
  • There is now a LGS hoody as part of the official sports kit. The School Council were instrumental in bringing this to fruition.

What have we achieved this year?

A new school hoody is now being introduced as PE kit.

The Road Service have done a traffic survey on the dangerous Cairncastle Road.

We have contributed to the new Positive Behaviour Policy coming into force in September 2014.

We have given our views on the use of mobile devices in school and contributed to the Mobile Device Policy.

We have had a meeting with the Board of Governors and they have listened to our views.

We have helped Mrs Steele with ideas on mentoring and also about introducing a ‘Homework Space’ in school.

We have kept a diary of “How best we learn” and have attended a staff training session and fed back to staff.
