A Level English Literature
A level English Literature (CCEA Specification)
This one or two year course takes students to a new level of awareness in their study of literature. Conducted in almost seminar-like surroundings, it has proved both intrinsically rewarding and rewarding in terms of results.
AS Level
The course at AS level begins with a study of the poetry of Seamus Heaney and Robert Frost or Elizabeth Jennings and Philip Larkin. 'A Streetcar Named Desire' is the focus for the 20th century drama element of the course. Our prose choices include 'The Scarlet Letter' by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights'.
A2 Level
At A2 level, the intensity of the course rises and students will study Shakespearean Tragedy, looking at 'King Lear'. The study of poetry continues, including the work of John Donne, William Blake or Geoffrey Chaucer. The Unseen Poetry section of the course introduces students to a range of poetic forms and genres. Finally, the coursework requirement of A2 engages students in a study of 21st and pre-21st century prose texts, with a focus on independent study and analysis.
