Employability is a component of the Learning for Life and Work programme and the Careers (CEIAG) programme. Please see the Careers Department website for further information on Careers.
The aim of Education for Employability is to ensure that all young people develop the personal qualities, skills, knowledge, understanding and attitudes that will give them a strong foundation for lifelong learning and work. These skills are equally important for all young people regardless of if they want to go straight into the world of work or study a course at university.
Education for Employability also ensures that pupils:
– develop knowledge about the different career options available to them;
– discover what their skills and personal capabilities are;
– recognise the importance of choosing a fulfilling career;
– recognise the importance of enjoying work; and
– can make informed career choices based on knowledge about the world of work.
Key Stage 3: Employability
Years 8 – 10 currently have 30 minutes per week, one period, during which they follow the CCEA programme of study for Employability. This is divided into four sub-sections, namely ‘Work in the Local and Global Economy’, ‘Personal Career Planning’, ‘Enterprise and Entrepreneurship’ and ‘Skills and Qualities for Work’.
Key Stage 4: Employability
Currently, all pupils in Year 12 have a timetabled Careers/ Employability class for 30 minutes per week.
Topics covered include: personal career plans, CVs, job applications forms, interview techniques, labour market information and options after GCSE. Employability follows under the umbrella of LLW and also is a key component of the Careers programme. For further information – please see the Careers Department page.
