Larne Grammar School

Larne Grammar School Tennis Club

Larne Grammar School has four floodlit carpet courts situated on-site as well as an extensive practice wall.  Tennis is taught to all pupils in Years 8 to 11 in six week blocks during their PE lessons, and is also a Games option in the Summer term.

Extra curricular tennis sessions are organised during the Summer term for players of all standard on several afternoons, and the courts are also regularly used for friendly and competitive matches.  The school has 4 internal cup competitions which can be competed for at Junior and Intermediate and Senior level.

Each year school teams of boys and girls are entered into the Ulster Branch Tennis Ireland Secondary Schools Competition at Minor, Junior, Intermediate and Senior levels.

Wimbledon Trip

The school has organised 6 highly successful visits to the All England Lawn Tennis Championships over the past number of years and over 200 pupils have benefitted from spectating at the world's most prestigious tennis tournament.

We book our own flights to England from where the tournament's appointed tour company Sport Experiences collects the party and whisks them to SW19 and the Wimbledon grounds.  A full day of spectating on the show and outside courts and enjoyment of the sights and sounds of the tournament are undertaken before retiring to a comfortable hotel for the night.  The following day is spent in and around London on an organised coach tour with a stop for lunch and shopping before returning to Northern Ireland that night.  It is a truely memorable experience and well worth it, as the number of returning multiple trip participants indicates and the trip was highlighted as the most noteworthy and memorable event in the school life of a recent Head Prefect!
